Robert Glasper and Snoop Dogg re-work Lalah Hathaway's GRAMMY song
Lalah brings the cool jazz licks and hip hop swag for a new version of her Best Traditional R&B Performance GRAMMY-nominated song 'Little Ghetto Boy.'
As we have been reporting, soul singer Lalah Hathaway is nominated at this year’s GRAMMY Awards for Best Traditional R&B Performance for her new live version of ‘Little Ghetto Boy,’ famously sung in the 1970s by her late father Donny Hathaway.
Now she has premiered a re-working together with rapper Snoop Dogg which also features Robert Glasper on piano. We also note the inclusion of one much celebrated saxophonist Kamasi Washington in this video.
This is not the first time Snoop has revisited the Donny Hathaway classic. Back in 1992 he recorded a song called 'Lil' Ghetto Boy' with Dr Dre for Dre's legendary album 'The Chronic' which sampled Donny.
Hathaway, Glasper and Washington all made a recent appearance on the highly acclaimed album ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ from rapper Kendrick Lamar and Glasper and Hathaway bagged a Best Traditional R&B Performance GRAMMY last year for their collaboration on a version of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Jesus Children of America’ from Glaser’s ‘Black Radio 2.’ This year could be a hatrick of awards over three years for Lalah.
