Last updated 27th May 2020
Legendary soul and talk show broadcaster Robbie Vincent returned to Jazz FM with a special programme of his own choices of music on the Bank Holiday Friday 8th May and the Spring Bank Holiday on the 25th May, after five years away from the station.
You can catch up with both specials here:
Robbie has been a figurehead of jazz, funk and soul music broadcasting in the UK since 1970 with stints on Radio London, Radio 1 and Kiss, where he was known for his catchphrase “if it moves, funk it!”. He’s also had previous stints with Jazz FM hosting the breakfast show (1998-2002) and Sunday Morning Soul (2008-2013).
Most recently, Robbie appeared as a guest on Jamie Crick’s Afternoon Show on the station’s birthday (4th March) as part of its 30th anniversary programming talking about his time on Jazz FM, and this is a continuation of those celebrations.
Of Robbie’s return to Jazz FM, Content Director Nick Pitts said:
“We’ve been wanting to lure Robbie back to Jazz FM for a couple of years now and at a time when we really need to have our spirits lifted with phenomenal music and legendary personality, Robbie’s Bank Holiday Friday programme couldn’t be better timed. I really am looking forward to his choice of music that, as Robbie would say in his own inimitable way, is 'carefully selected so that only the best reach the turntable'.
Robbie Vincent claimed:
“Nice to move with Jazz FM as it celebrates 30 years. I’m also pleased that all my efforts of watching satellite traffic over my house means a technical marvel produces live lockdown musical action coinciding with the VE Day Bank Holiday. Prepare yourself for decades of our favourites.”
