Respite from rasping violins as guitars take over

Latest trends suggest the violin is giving way to booming renewed interest in learning electric guitar.

Every parent reaches the crossroads when their child develops an interest in learning to play music. Hours of off key practice is a given which can be particularly painful if it's violin unless junior is prodigious. We've all been there. Rasping, bending notes torturously penetrating ears in an otherwise peaceful home. Relief may be at hand though. Latest trends suggest the violin is giving way to renewed interest in electric guitar, partly attributed to the influence of TV talent show X-Factor.

Figures report more children are able to play musical instruments today too, up over a third in fifteen years.
