Quincy Jones to be honoured at Monterey Jazz Festival 2016

Monterey Jazz Festival, now in its 59th year, is producing a special show in honour of impresario, musician and producer Quincy Jones on September 16th 2016.

Monterey Jazz Festival, now in its 59th year, is producing a special show called 'The A&M Years' in honour of impresario, musician and producer Quincy Jones on September 16th 2016. 

Grammy Award-winning bassist Christian McBride will direct music from Quincy’s years at A&M Records including the albums ‘Walking in Space,’ ‘Gula Matari’ and ‘Smackwater Jack’ during the 1970s.

The tribute show will include musicians who played on these recordings including flautist Hubert Laws, pianist Dave Grusin and vocalist Valerie Simpson (Ashford & Simpson) plus trumpeter Sean Jones, Quincy Jones mentored Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez and harmonica player Grégoire Maret

Quincy, now 83, will receive the Monterey Jazz Festival Legends Award the day prior in a gala show featuring host Clint Eastwood, prodigious young Indonesian pianist Joey Alexander and more.

In June 2016 Quincy Jones received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Jazz FM.
