International Jazz Day Celebrations at the White House

April 30th marked the fifth annual International Jazz Day, celebrating music throughout the world. This year’s All-Star Global Concert took place in the iconic surroundings of The White House in Washington D.C and was hosted by none other than President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, broadcast as a primetime ABC television special. The event is organised by the United Nations and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock.

The complete broadcast is available to see below, including President Obama’s introduction speech, Aretha Franklin’s tribute to Prince, Chick Corea’s stunning quintet, Love Supreme star Esperanza Spalding, Hugh Masekela, Chucho Valdes, Jamie Cullum, Robert Glasper, Trombone Shorty, Diane Reeves, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Christian Mcbride, Joey Alenxander and many more. The 'MC' for the night was Hollywood actor and Jazz fan Morgan Freeman and actor Helen Mirren also introduced her fellow countryman Sting.
