President Bill Clinton recognised for advocacy of jazz

Former American President Bill Clinton was awarded the Maria Fisher Founder's Award for his contribution to jazz music education at a gala show organised by the Thelonius Monk Institute Of Jazz. Chairman Herbie Hancock paid tribute to Mr Clinton, highlighting his long advocacy of jazz and support for jazz education programmes throughout his Presidency.

Producer Quincy Jones and actors Goldie Hawn and Kevin Spacey joined the celebrations. Spacey even showed his musicality by performing with jazz legends Dee Dee Bridgewater and Dianne Reeves.

Scholarships and prizes were awarded to young musicians and composers throughout event including brilliant trumpeter Marquis Hill, as previously reported here.
