Pop singer Rebecca Ferguson, who came to prominence as runner-up in the TV show X-Factor, is to re-interpret Billie Holiday’s ’Lady Sings The Blues’.

She was initially cautious about the idea but now working on the album, her third, at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles Ferguson said she was touched and moved and that she had fallen in love with Billie Holiday’s story after she researched it. “I didn’t want it to be a cover of Billie or me trying to imitate Billie because there is only one Billie Holiday and that’s that.” she said.

Producing the album is Troy Miller who has worked with Roy Ayers, Ronnie Laws, Laura Mvula and Amy Winehouse. Miller said, “It is a pleasure to be here with Rebecca because I think she’s got a real fresh approach to this music”.

The album is due to be released on March 9th to mark Billie Holiday’s centenary year and the 28-year-old mum of three will also play the album on various dates at London’s St James Theatre in February and March.
