Phil Robson's heavy grooves roll into town

New dates for Partisans guitarist Phil Robson and his organ trio. Birmingham and London included as the band showcase the new album 'The Cut Off Point'.

British jazz guitarist Phil Robson has many metaphorical strings to his guitar, as well as the finely tuned regular six.

He is 25% of the long established, 2015 Parliamentary Jazz Award winning band, Partisans. Their album ‘Swamp’ is a triumph of inventive and biting grooves. Robson is also life partner and guitarist for Irish jazz vocalist Christine Tobin. Both Christine and Partisans will be appearing at the forthcoming Love Supreme Jazz Festival at Glynde Place, July 3rd to 5th.

Now Robson, a versatile composer too, invites us into a new soundscape with his organ trio. Fellow Partisan Gene Calderazzo features on drums with immense underpinning grooves from the ubiquitous Ross Stanley on organ. Robson’s own sizzling licks and John Scofield-like power moves set up the new Whirlwind Recordings release ‘The Cut Off Point’ for another salute to one of this country’s master guitarists. The album contains a number of originals, a Dave Liebman composition ‘Dimi and The Blue Men’ and ‘Astral’, a piece composed for the late Kenny Wheeler just before he died.

Now Robson takes the trio on the road performing at Birmingham’s Red Lion June 5th, London’s Vortex Jazz Club June 6th, Herts Jazz Club June 7th and Swanage Jazz Festival on July 12th.
