Paris announced as 2015 International Jazz Day host city

The fourth annual International Jazz Day will take place on April 30th. There will be celebrations in major cities around the world and this year Paris has been named host city. The announcement was made by UNESCO ambassador Herbie Hancock. The intention of this day of celebration is, “to encourage and highlight the power of jazz as a force for freedom and creativity, promoting intercultural dialogue through respect and understanding, uniting people from all corners of the globe.” It has official recognition of both UNESCO and the United Nations. This year UNESCO reaches it’s 70th anniversary and this will form a big part of their anniversary celebrations.

Paris will host with a day long series of educational jazz events. An evening concert at UNESCO Headquarters will feature performances by Dee Dee Bridgewater, prodigious young Chinese pianist A Bu, Herbie Hancock, Al Jarreau, Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, South African Hugh Masekela, Marcus Miller, Dianne Reeves, Wayne Shorter and many more. It will be streamed worldwide from Paris.

In London The Human Revolution Orchestra play a special concert ‘Ode to the Human Spirit 2015’ with guest the internationally renowned American trombonist Robin Eubanks at The Union Chapel in Islington, North London.
