Soul, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and The United States vs Billie Holiday are among the films nominated for the 93rd Academy Awards

The Oscar nominations have been revealed for 2021 and it sees the Disney-Pixar's Soul nominated for 3 awards, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom for 5 as well as Andra Day being nominated for 'Best Actress in a Leading Role' for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in The United States vs Billie Holiday.

British soul star Celeste is also up for an award for 'Music (Original Song)', for her song 'Hear my Voice' (from The Trial of the Chicago) and Leslie Odom Jr. is up for 'Best Actor In A Supporting Role' (One Night in Miami) as well as 'Music (Original Song)' from One Night In Miami.

Disney-Pixar's Soul sees Jamie Foxx play a teach who plays jazz in New York nightclubs, with contributions from the Grammy-nominated pianist Jon Batiste. The film has been nominated for 'Best Animated Feature Film', 'Best Music (Original Score)' as well as 'Best Sound'.

The Netflix-released Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, which depicts the "Mother of the Blues" (Viola Davis) in a fictionalised feud with her trumpet player (Chadwick Boseman), sees Viola Davis nominated for 'Best Actress in a Leading Role', a posthumous nomination for Chadwick Boseman for 'Best Actor in a Leading Role' (in what was his final film performance) alongside nominations for 'Best Production Design', 'Best Costume Design' and 'Best Makeup and Hairstyling'.

When are the Oscars 2021 announced?

The Oscars will take place on Sunday the 25th of April 2021.

The awards were originally scheduled to take place on the 28th of February but were pushed back to a later date due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
