Nightmare jazz in a low-bit world

One of the more bizarre finds on the internet is the Youtube channel of Swedish jazz music student Simon Fransman.

‘Simon’s World Of Jazz And Stuff’ links his passion for jazz with the sort of uneasy animation that would have graced a multi-level computer game circa 1996, featuring weird animated performances from Human-ish characters. Fransman describes it as “a channel dedicated to jazz where nothing and everything makes sense.” 

Each video is 2 minutes at most with songs vocalized Stephen Hawking-like to similarly low-bit jazz and bossanova standards. Viewers may find them slightly disturbing, yet curiously morish. 

Watch below as he redefines ’A Night In Tunisia’ as ’A Nightmare In Tunisia,’ Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim’s ‘Wave’ looks like a twisted bar scene from Duke Nukem 3D, Charlie Parker's 'Ornithology' is close to inducing a bebop psychosis and Freddie Hubbard's 'Red Clay' travels to the year 3000.

“I guess the community for nightmare jazz is still pretty small,” Fransman said. “I seek to change that."
