New York’s Carnegie Hall is to host a star studded tribute show to singer songwriter Bill Withers called ‘Lean On Him.’ on October 1st. Ed Sheeran, Michael McDonald, D’Angelo, Sheryl Crow, Aloe Blacc,  Gregory Porter, Ledisi and Dr. John are amongst those who will recreate his classic ‘Bill Withers Live At Carnegie Hall’ album from 1973 in its entirety.

It’s unlikely that they’ll be able to coax Bill on stage to join them though. As R&B legend Booker T, who worked with Withers, told Jazz FM’s Chris Philips he was a reluctant singer, preferring instead to concentrate on his skills in carpentry! He has appeared recently on stage with pianist Robert Glasper who covered his hit ‘Lovely Day’ but only for friendly banter.
