The spirit and humanity of the late bass player Charlie Haden is being celebrated with a new album and live performance of his Liberation Music Orchestra, with arrangements by Carla Bley.
The project is called ‘Time / Life – Song for the Whales and Other Beings.' It harks back to their first collaborations in the late 1960’s, an album project that began in 2007 intending to celebrate the human spirit and the dignity of the individual, inspired by life-affirming songs from the Spanish Civil War and fired in protest against the war in Vietnam.
Release date is October 14th 2016, just over two years after Haden's death, with a one-off Liberation Music Orchestra concert on the November 20th as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival at Cadogan Hall featuring a stellar band conducted by Carla Bley which includes trombonist Curtis Fowlkes, saxophonists Tony Malaby and Chris Cheek and trumpeter Michael Rodriguez.
