New Netflix documentary about Nina Simone

Variety Magazine reports that streaming video service Netflix is producing a documentary about singer Nina Simone called ‘What Happened, Miss Simone?’

It will draw from over 100 hours of classic recordings, feature unreleased audio and rare archive footage. Nina’s story is told from her own perspective with personal diary excerpts, letters and interviews with Simone’s daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, friends and collaborators.

The documentary is due to stream some time next year. Interest in Nina Simone is high as 2015 also sees the release of Hollywood bio-pic ‘Nina’ starring Zoe Saldana as Simone, British actor David Oyelowo and Mike Epps.
