One of New Orleans famous jazz sons, Branford Marsalis, has returned to the city’s renowned Snug Harbor venue on Frenchmen Street to headline for the first time there in over 30 years. Father Ellis Marsalis is well known for his residencies but these days Branford lives in North Carolina.

He was in town with his quartet for a four day residency with special guest vocalist Kurt Elling. The gigs served as a live warm up for the new Marsalis / Elling album being recorded in New Orleans with a band featuring pianist Joey Calderazzo, bassist Eric Revis and drummer Justin Faulkner.

They were also joined by Dee Dee Bridgewater and New Orleans trumpeters Irvin Mayfield and Nicholas Payton.
