Grammy Award winning singer Cassandra Wilson has signed to Sony Music’s Legacy Recordings. In the spring of 2015 she will be releasing an album tribute to singer Billie Holiday on Billie’s centenary anniversary.

The new recording called ‘Coming Forth By Day’ was recorded in Los Angeles and will feature members of Nick Cave’s band The Bad Seeds

Adam Block, president of Legacy said, ”Cassandra Wilson is one of the world's most elegant and tasteful artists. Her decision to channel the spirit of Billie Holiday on her new album is a perfect complement to Legacy's plans for celebrating Lady Day's centennial. It's an absolute treat to work with Cassandra in the realisation of this unexpected and sublimely beautiful music."

Wilson will start a world tour in February after performances in Norway, Germany, Slovakia and Italy this month and December 2014.

Hailing from Jackson, Mississippi, singer, songwriter and producer Cassandra Wilson has been working as a vocalist since the mid 1970s. After she moved to New York in the early 1980s, she met progressive alto saxophonist Steve Coleman and became one of the founding members of the groundbreaking M-Base Collective who’s radical structured form of improvisation continues to influence the direction of jazz, fusion and rock. She is a two time Grammy winner in 1996 and 2009.
