Acclaimed singer Lizz Wright, who’s sound embodies jazz, soul, folk and neo-soul has signed to jazz label Concord. She is currently recording a new album in Los Angeles with producer Larry Klein who has worked with Herbie Hancock and Joni Mitchell.
The album is as yet untitled but will be Wright's first for five years since ‘Fellowship’. All of her four albums so far have been jazz chart toppers with her last album reaching No.1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums chart. Her career has seen her collaborate with singer / songwriter and bass player Me'Shell Ndegeocello and the late Joe Sample.
Wright is looking forward to making the album after a five year hiatus during which she says’ “life happened, which is a good thing. So I’ve got something to talk about.” She added, "I'm enjoying the upper ends of my register now, which really allows me to tell a story. I want to get inside of it like Roberta Flack and Nina Simone. They embody a song, not just sing over it."
Live European dates are being planned for May.
