Grammy-winning vocalist Natalie Cole has died aged 65.

She was the jazz and r&b singing daughter of Nat “King” Cole” who carried his musical legacy. Technology allowed her to release a virtual duet with her father on the song ‘Unforgettable’ after his death, her career high point.

After a career slump in the 1970s she had re-emerged in 1987 with a new pop sound on the album ‘Everlasting’ which included hit records ‘Jump Start’ and her cover of Bruce Springsteen's ‘Pink Cadillac’ as well as cherished jazz infused soul song ‘More Than The Stars’ featuring guitarist José Feliciano. She re-gained world-wide acclaim with the song ‘Miss You Like Crazy’ but will always be remembered for her evergreen favourite ‘This Will Be.’

Natalie Cole died on Thursday evening in Los Angeles due to compilations from ongoing health issues. She had battled drug problems and Hepatitis C and four years ago had a kidney transplant.

In a statement her son Robert Yancy and sisters Timolin and Casey Cole said, “Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived, with dignity, strength and honour. Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain ‘unforgettable’ in our hearts forever.”
