Mahalia and Ego Ella May win at the 2020 MOBO Awards
Singer Mahalia was among the top winners, collecting two awards at the ceremony

The MOBO Awards ceremony, which celebrates Black music and culture, was held yesterday evening.
Soul singer Mahalia was one of the biggest winners of the evening, picking two awards for 'Best Female Act' as well as 'Best R&B/Soul Act'. The singer has also received nominations for the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, which will take place at the end of January 2021.
London-based singer-songwriter Ego Ella May, who recently talked to Tony Minvielle on Folded Space, was presented with the award for 'Best Jazz Act'.
The category was hotly contested, withJoe Armon-Jones,Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes,Yazmin LaceyandMoses Boydamong the nominees.
The revered British filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen, known for directing 12 Years A Slave_ and most recently the acclaimed TV-film series _Small Axe, was presented with the 'Inspiration Award' for his success and achievements.

Started in 1996 by Kanya King to celebrate the incredible talent making music of Black origin in the UK, the MOBO Awards has quickly grown to become one of Europe’s biggest music award ceremonies with vast cultural influence. For more than 20 years, MOBO has honoured the artistic and technical achievements of exceptional British and international talent in Hip Hop, Grime, R&B and Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Gospel and Afrobeats.
