Memphis honours Charlie Wood on the jazz walk of fame

British based American pianist and vocalist Charlie Wood has been honoured in his home town of Memphis, Tennessee, with an engraved brass note on Beale Street along with some of the greatest names in music. The parade of notes on Beale Street is described as the jazz version of the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

This is a dream award for Charlie Having having played thousands of gigs in the city’s clubs and bars on Beale Street, a famous and popular American boulevard in a legendary music city. 

Charlie’s brass note sits with names like BB King, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Albert King (with whom he played), Phineas Newborn, Jimmie Lunceford, Otis Redding and Al Green.

Wood said, “being awarded this honour, having a brass note with my name on it set amongst so many of the musicians I love and admire - it's one of the highest accolades I could ever hope for. It's a lot to live up to, but I'll do my best to deserve it.”

Charlie has just completed and released his sixth album ‘New Souvenirs’ which is produced by his wife, British jazz vocalist Jacqui Dankworth.
