Gospel soul singer Mavis Staples is having a huge celebration for her 75th birthday with an all-star line-up for a concert called ’I’ll Take You There – Celebrating 75 Years Of Mavis Staples’. It will take place in Chicago’s Auditorium Theatre next month.

Bonnie Raitt, Otis Clay, Michael Mcdonald, Keb’ Mo’, Taj Mahal, Aaron Neville plus a host of big names from pop music will take part, and of course Mavis will perform too. Grammy Award-winner and Blue Note Records supremo Don Was will be music director and the gig will be filmed.

Mavis was a key member of the legendary family band The Staples Singers along with sisters Cleotha and Yvonne, brother Pervis and father ‘Pops’ Staples. They made several hit records with the iconic Stax record label and Curtis Mayfield’s Curtom Records. In 2005, the group was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
