Trumpet and jazz titan Louis Armstrong’s trumpet is going up for sale. The trumpet being sold is a Selmer Model 19, which was custom made for the jazz legend in 1948 and given to a family friend in 1953.

The trumpet is made of gold plated brass, is inscribed with his nickname "Satchmo" and accompanied by a signed cotton handkerchief.

It is likely that the Selmer trumpet was used for Louis Armstrong's The California Concerts, a live album which was recorded in 1951.

Reportedly, Armstrong had a habit to use a trumpet for around five years before giving it away.

The trumpet is expected to reach between $60,000 and $80,000 when it goes on sale at Christie’s Auction House in New York on October the 14th.
