Lonnie Liston Smith 'Expansions' 40th anniversary concert November 20th

Legendary US keyboard player Lonnie Liston Smith will play at London’s Brooklyn Bowl on Friday, November 20 in a special 40th anniversary celebration of his much loved recording ‘Expansions’ hosted by DJ Gilles Peterson. The event will be in support of the Steve Reid Foundation, a benevolent organisation set up to help musicians in crisis or suffering illness. The Foundation provides grants to non-profit organisations including the Musicians Benevolent Fund and the Jazz Foundation of America.

Smith left the Miles Davis band and continued to record with his own band the Cosmic Echoes. The 1975 album ‘Expansions’ gave rise to an evergreen jazz-funk club groove of the same name. Cecil McBee’s unmistakeable bass-line and brother Donald Smith’s soulful call for peace and a higher consciousness created a true classic that has transcended generations of jazz lovers and club goers.

The night at Brooklyn Bowl will be a live concert from Lonnie Liston Smith and club night featuring DJs Greg Edwards, Gordon Mac and JM along with Jazz FM’s Jeff Young and Chris Philips.
