London celebrates 100 years of New York jazz

London’s Cadogan Hall is celebrating a century of jazz at New York’s Carnegie Hall on Saturday 23rd September.

Musical directors Pete Long and Richard Pite will lead a jazz orchestra taking the audience on a trip from the 1912 proto-jazz of James Rees Europe through the roaring 20s of Paul Whiteman, and into the swing era with music by Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong and Glenn Miller.

The 40s and 50s see the experimentation of bands led by Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton and Dizzy Gillespie, on in to the timeless music of greats such as Count Basie, Tony Bennett and Miles Davis.
