Jazz vocalist Cecilia Stalin is to run a series of jazz singing workshops from October 7 to December 4 at I'klectik Art Lab in London together with pianist Rick Simpson. Spaces are limited for the eight week project and attendees will learn about jazz and it's styles, repertoire, swing feel and the art of jazz improvisation.
Classes will include vocal warm ups, breathing, vocal phrasing and rhythmical exercises and performance as well as learning classic jazz song repertoire and knowing the difference between swing, ballad and bossa nova singing.
There are no entry requirements or prior knowledge of jazz required, just a desire to sing and have fun! The course costs £190. For more visit Cecilia's website.
Swedish born London resident Cecilia Stalin is an integral part of the British jazz music community. Her breakthrough came with Nu-Jazz act Koop on their hit ‘Waltz For Koop’ featured on Woody Allen's ‘Match Point’ film soundtrack. Cecilia has performed live with pop group The Streets, Cinematic Orchestra, collaborated with Atlanta-based producers Daz-I-Kue and Khari Cabral Simmons and has received extensive support on Jazz FM for her ‘Step Like A Giant’ album project, re-interpreting titles recorded by John Coltrane. She studied under the great Buster Williams in New York.
