A new collection of Lee Morgan's legendary performance at the Lighthouse has been released.

The Complete Live at the Lighthouse, which has been released via Blue Note Records, contains 12 sets of music from the trumpeter, featuring his quintet made up of Benni Maupin on saxophone, Harold Malbern on keys, Jymie Merritt on bass with Mickey Roker on drums.

The famed outing was recorded from 10-12 July 1970 at the Lighthouse n Hermosa Beach, California, and was originally released 50 years in 1971 as a double LP set.

The Complete Live at the Lighthouse collection was produced by Zev Feldman and David Weiss and is available as an 8-CD set and a limited-edition 12-LP all-analogue 180g vinyl set that encompasses 33 performances, more than 4 hours of previously unreleased music - allowing the listener to relive the experience of being in the club for every exhilarating moment.

The physical releases are accompanied by a booklet featuring new interviews with Bennie Maupin and the last extensive interview with Jymie Merritt before his passing in 2020; previously unpublished photos by Joel Franklin and Lee Tanner; as well as a statement from Morgan’s family.

Discussing the release, the late Jymie Merritt said "In a sense, it is holy music. And that was the thing I felt throughout the performances at The Lighthouse, this was totally uncompromised music in terms of the way it went down".

Reflecting on this new collection, the Jazz FM Award-winning President of Blue Note Records Don Was said, “This collection probably gives us the clearest picture of where Lee Morgan was headed and, as such, is a record of monumental importance.”
