Jazz sons Ravi Coltrane and Matthew Garrison debut on ECM

ECM Records are to release a new album featuring drummer Jack DeJohnette (also playing piano), saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and bassist Matthew Garrison. Ravi is son of saxophonist John Coltrane and Matthew is son of bassist Jimmy Garrison and DeJohnette has played with both their legendary fathers. 

The new recording, ‘In Movement’, begins with a take on John Coltrane’s political piece ‘Alabama’ as well breathing new energy into Miles Davis and Bill Evans’ ‘Blue In Green’ plus an abstract take on Earth, Wind and Fire’s ‘Serpentine Fire.’ The trio also pay homage to Garrison Sr. and Hendrix with ‘The Two Jimmy’s’ while ‘Rashied’ salutes Coltrane’s fire-brand free jazz drummer Rashied Ali.

‘In Movement’ is to be released May 6th 2016.
