Jazz initiative engages young people in North Yorkshire

Thirsk based arts charity Rural Arts have invited jazz vocalist Lindsay Hannon to work with young people aged 11-18 in Redcar and East Cleveland. They’ll be creating a musical performance that will be the opening act for Lindsay’s four nights of shows in North Yorkshire in November.

This innovative idea is part of the charity’s #CREATEtour project which has been running since 2012. “Running the #CREATEtour at Tuned In! is one of our favourite things that we do here at Rural Arts” said Sophie Backhouse, the projects organiser. “Being able to work with Lindsay, a brilliant professional singer, is an amazing opportunity for them and we are really excited to see what is created!”

The Lindsay Hannon Plus recently released their debut album ‘The Spy,’ a mixture of covers and original songs, rooted in the improvisational traditions of jazz, from raucous barrel house blues to thoughtful, spacious ballads.
