The Jazz FM Awards 2015, produced by Serious, take place at Vinopolis in London on June 10th, honouring musicians and performers that have made an exceptional contribution within the worlds of Jazz, Blues and Soul. A Lifetime Achievement award will be presented to legendary South African musician Hugh Masekela, who will also be performing on the evening.

We are excited to reveal the nominees for the Audience Vote awards which include Live Experience of the Year, UK Jazz Act of the Year and Album of the Year.

The Live Experience of the Year award sees the UK’s biggest jazz events go head to head with their most memorable performances of the past year. These include a reformed Loose Tubes live at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Blue Note Records 75th Birthday at EFG London Jazz Festival featuring Robert Glasper and Jason Moran and Jamie Cullum’s main stage performance at Love Supreme Jazz Festival.

It’s also your chance to choose the UK Jazz Act of the Year sponsored by Yamaha. Nominees are Manchester trio GoGo Penguin, taking influences from electronic music, rhythmical outfit Sons of Kemet lead by multi-reed player Shabaka Hutchings and experimental jazz-electronica band Polar Bear featuring the percussive innovation of drummer Seb Rochford and electronic stlylings of Leaf Cutter John.

The Album of the Year category will see a battle of the Atlantic. American trumpeter and Blue Note Recording artist Ambrose Akinmusire makes the nominees after his 3rd album release with ‘The Imagined Savior Is Far Easier To Paint’. R&B star D'Angelo is nominated for his album ‘Black Messiah’, his third after a 14 year hiatus. The Grammy Award-winning album ‘Beautiful Life’ from vocalist Dianne Reeves and saxophonist Chris Potter Underground Orchestra ‘Imaginary Cities’ are also in the running. Flying the flag for the UK are Polar Bear for the album ’In Each and Every One’ and Troyka’s vision of a world controlled by large bird like creatures called ‘Ornithophobia’.
