Jazz FM and Yamaha's Replay Project returns for Love Supreme Festival 2016

Following the success of last year’s highly acclaimed Replay Project, Yamaha and Jazz FM have once again teamed up to provide a unique and life changing opportunity for lapsed players to go centre stage at one of the UK’s most popular jazz music festivals, Love Supreme Festival. Becoming members of the Yamaha Jazz FM Replay Project big band, members will be rubbing musical shoulders with Grace Jones, Burt Bacharach, Lianne La Havas and The Stanley Clarke Band (amongst others), and of course 20,000 jazz fans.

The Replay Project are seeking adult amateurs who play saxophone, trumpet or trombone. Those chosen to be part of the band will be professionally coached by Pete Long, Director of the Ronnie Scott’s Big Band. Rehearsals will take place in a central London location in May and June before the Festival takes place on 1-3 July 2016.

Last Year’s Replay Project big band inspired some high profile supporters to become patrons including musicians Jamie Cullum, Jools Holland and Julian Joseph along with comedian, TV presenter and a lapsed musician himself, Alexander Armstrong.

Jamie Cullum commented, "I am really happy to support the Jazz FM Yamaha Replay Project. Music has always been and still is a passionate hobby for me. If making music is your hobby the Replay Project allows you to discover and rediscover the joys of being in a band. So, lapsed musicians, pick up your instruments, get playing" 

Alexander Armstrong said "I'm delighted to be part of the Yamaha Jazz FM Replay Project. As a lapsed musician who has recently re-taken up the oboe and saxophone I know only too well what the rewards are of revisiting talents of a previous stage of life. It's amazing how quickly you pick things up second time around AND the speedy progress you make when studying as an adult rather than a teenager!”

To be part of it download the audition piece and submit a short audition and application. Judges from Yamaha, Jazz FM and Love Supreme will judge all entries and select this year’s Replay Project players.

From last year’s big band, school teacher (and alternating first and second sax) Fiona Low said “When I was young, I did a performance degree and one day I woke up and I couldn’t use my hand so I could no longer play, so I then trained as a teacher.  My recommendation is just do it – don’t even think about it.  If you get through, you’ll have the best experience ever and you’ll get to meet some amazing musicians.  Don’t even hesitate!”
