Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra announce World tour

Wynton Marsalis is taking the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on its longest tour in nearly 15 years, covering 15 cities in 10 countries over 40 days.

Jazz at Lincoln Center has announced their Orchestra, led by Wynton Marsalis, will embark on its ‘Blue Engine Tour’ taking in 10 countries, performing in 15 cities during a 40 day spell. This will be their longest tour in around 15 years. The Orchestra begin at The Olympia in Paris on February 4th and end in New Zealand on March 12th playing the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington.

London's Barbican Centre is to host a date on February 18th featuring special guest Wayne Shorter in an evening dedicated to his compositions arranged by members of the band, as well as the Orchestra’s new arrangements on repertoire from the Gershwin Songbook with other invited guests on February 20th.

Marsalis will lead the Orchestra through material from Thelonious Monk and specially selected material from the catalogue of Blue Note Records including Lee Morgan and Herbie Hancock. JALC Orchestra recently released ‘Live in Cuba’ and this will also figure in their performances. There’s more! After their ‘Jazz In The Key of Life’ show in New York there will be repertoire from Stevie Wonder, The Beatles and Elton John too.

The tour will also include educational programmes across the world. Wynton Marsalis said, “The education programs and breadth of music on this tour speaks to the flexibility of this ensemble. We look forward to bringing a different experience to people at every performance."
