The inaugural London Saxophone Festival has been announced for May 21-27, in partnership with Jazz FM. It’s a celebration of the iconic instrument featuring workshops, tutorials, films and concerts – including appearances from Grammy winning players Bob Reynolds of Snarky Puppy and Casey Benjamin from the Robert Glasper Experiment, plus MOBO-winning performer YolanDa Brown and BBC Young Musician of the Year Alexander Bone.

The festival will feature a free ‘Sax Village and Family Day’, open to the public on the Sat 26 May between 11am and 8.30pm in the foyer of Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square. Newcomers will be able to assemble and play the saxophone for the first time and be shown techniques, while experienced players will be able to converse and consult with leading musicians and industry figures. The day will feature concerts for babies and children, as well as saxophones to hire or to purchase at special rates.

Boutique cinema chain Everyman will also be providing special screenings of movies that feature quintessential saxophone scores in their soundtracks at several of their sites as part of the festival, with music in the bar of each venue ahead of the films.
