Herbie Hancock's gratitude to a rude car salesman

Jazz legend Herbie Hancock has been telling US TV star Jay Leno how he came to own a super-rare classic American sports car.

In 1963, following a conversation with his room mate Donald Byrd, he went to take a look at the new AC Shelby Cobra but was given the cold shoulder by a rude salesman. The following day Herbie returned with $6,000 cash determined to buy the car, mainly to show the salesman his money was good, and he’s owned it ever since. He's grateful for this decision as today it’s valued at around $2,000,000.

This particular car is one of a very limited number produced in its specification and is in pristine condition. Hancock tells the story on CNBC’s "Jay Leno's Garage.”
