Henry Threadgill wins 2016 Pulitzer Prize For Music

Former Jazz FM Award nominee, saxophonist and composer Henry Threadgill bagged the coveted Pulitzer Prize For Music for his 2015 album 'In For a Penny, In For a Pound.’

American saxophonist Henry Threadgill has been awarded The 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Music. 

Threadgill’s 2015 album ‘In For a Penny, In For a Pound’ was described by The Pulitzer Prize Board as, “a highly original work in which notated music and improvisation mesh in a sonic tapestry that seems the very expression of modern American life.”

The Pulitzer Prize for Music, for which Threadgill receives $10,000, is awarded to, “a distinguished musical composition by an American that has had its first performance or recording in the United States during the year.”

Henry Threadgill was nominated for Jazz Innovation at last year’s Jazz FM Awards.
