Harlem’s National Jazz Museum draws parallels between jazz and architecture
‘Mies and Miles’ links the works of German-American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and trumpeter Miles Davis.
The newly re-opened National Jazz Museum in harlem, New York, has new premises, a new board chairman and new ideas.
The Guardian’s Martin Pengelly reports on a project called ‘Mies and Miles’ which draws a parallel between music and modern architecture linking the works of German American architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and trumpeter Miles Davis. Also, ’Vibration’ which expands on Duke Ellington’s score ’Harlem Air Shaft’ that expresses, in music, sounds heard in or through a building nearby.
The museum is affiliated to the Smithsonian Institute with full access to its collections for the documentation of jazz history.
