Trumpeter and composer Guy Barker has been awarded an MBE For services to Jazz (London) in the latest New Year’s honours list.

Barker has played with the jazz greats including Sir John Dankworth, Gil Evans, Ornette Coleman, Mike Westbrook and hard bop alto saxophonist Bobby Watson as well as an array of successful pop acts from Erasure to Wham! Recently he has toured with his own 15 piece orchestra and has spent time composing with American jazz singer Kurt Elling with whom he has worked during his tenure as Musical Director and Arranger on 'Jazz Voice', the now traditional gala opening concert for the EFG London Jazz Festival.
