Guitarist Jeff Golub dies aged 59

Jazz guitarist Jeff Golub has died at age 59 following a long illness. As well as numerous collaborations down the years with jazz and soul artists Ohio born Golub spent time with Avenue Blue Band and played with Rod Stewart and also released over a dozen albums as a leader. He was a guitarist who effortlessly bridged the genres.

Golub had been suffering from the rare brain disorder PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) suffering blindness and loss of physical function that at one point caused him to fall onto New York subway tracks and be dragged by a train, although emerged unscathed. This incident sparked his final album ‘Train Kept A Rolling’ which he made with British organist and keyboard player Brian Auger. 

A benefit concert arranged for January 21st to raise more of the tens of thousands of dollars fans have already raised towards his medical costs will now be a tribute gig at B.B. King’s Blues Club in New York.
