Great American songwriter Ervin Drake dies at 95

Ervin Drake, who wrote jazz standards including 'Good Morning Heartache' has died at the age of 95.

One of the great American songwriters, Ervin Drake, has died at the age of 95. He famously wrote the English lyrics for Brazilian song ‘Tico-Tico’ as well as jazz standard ‘Perdido’ recorded by Duke Ellington and later wrote standards including ‘It Was a Very Good Year’, covered by Frank Sinatra. 

Other compositions include jazz standard ‘Good Morning, Heartache’, sung by Billie Holiday and recorded by over 100 artists. He was president of American Guild of Authors and Composers from 1973 to 1982 and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983.
