GoGo Penguin help launch 'Songs For Manchester'

Mercury Music Prize nominated Manchester jazz trio GoGo Penguin joined with the band Everything Everything to launch a new initiative called ‘Songs For Manchester’. This has been organised by PRS For Music, who look after over 100,000 songwriters and composers, to coincide with their 100th anniversary programme. ‘Songs For Manchester’ celebrates the link between thousands of PRS licenced businesses in Greater Manchester and music creators. The licensing makes sure songwriters, composers and publishers receive royalties whenever their music is played or performed.

GoGo Penguin are signed to trumpeter Matthew Halsall’s Gondwana Records, a Manchester indie label, and are currently penning their third album in the city. Their recent album ‘V2.0’ received a nomination for the prestigious Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize 2014. They recently performed on BBC2’s Later With Jools Holland.

In a statement the band said, "Our inspiration comes from the urban streets of Manchester. We love this city and its melting pot of culture, people, music and everything in between. It's great that PRS for Music's 'Songs for Manchester' is celebrating this unique place and the link between music royalties and local businesses. So many careers would not be possible without this support."
