British bassist and jazz music educator Gary Crosby and his Quartet are to perform at London’s Southbank Centre this Friday July 10th in tribute to the 50th anniversary of Coltrane’s live performance of his revered hymnal recording ’A Love Supreme’. Coltrane only ever performed the piece live once at Antibes in 1965.
Crosby lines up with saxophonist Denys Baptiste, pianist Joe Arman-Jones and Rod Youngs on drums. The concert starts at 5.30, is free entry and The Front Room is found in the foyer of the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
At the Love Supreme Festival across the weekend of July 3rd to 5th Universal Records delighted fans with a surprise playback of a hidden Coltrane gem, a previously undiscovered and as yet unreleased take from the original ‘A Love Supreme’ studio sessions.
