Hollywood actor Ethan Hawke is to play jazz trumpeter Chet Baker in a new bio-pic called ’Born to be Blue, currently shooting in Canada.

The film will portray Baker’s career from being chosen to play with the legendary Charlie Parker, to career ups and downs blighted by drug addiction, to his comeback in the 1970s. When it seemed Chet Baker was returning to his peak he was found dead having fallen from hotel balcony in Amsterdam in 1988 after a cocktail of drugs. That same year there was an Oscar nominated documentary about him called ‘Let’s Get Lost’.

43 year old Hawke has been passionately involved in the development of ‘Born to be Blue’ and will star with Carmen Ejogo, who featured with him in ‘The Purge’, and ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’s Callum Keith Rennie.’ The writer and director, Robert Budreau, also made a short film called ‘The Death of Chet Baker’.
