Hugh Masekela is back with his first new album in five years. The South African jazz legend is 77, and still packing a punch with his trumpet and vocals, and his politics; the project is called ‘No Borders’ – it delves into the culture and history across the African continent – including songs about slavery, Fela Kuti and women of the Congo. “Borders are artificial,” he explains. “We even have a map from 1590 in the album sleeve to show what Africa looked like in 1590.” He’s reworked a new stripped back version of his song ‘Don’t Go Lose It Baby’ – listen out for that, it’s just been added to the Jazz FM playlist!
