FIRST LISTEN: Brand new Snarky Puppy unveiled
The US supergroup have announced new album ‘Immigrance’
Grammy winning US collective Snarky Puppy have unveiled the details of their twelfth studio album, due for release this Spring on their own GroundUP music label. Bandleader and bassist Michael League says this project is rawer and moodier than its predecessors, with the title ‘Immigrance’ he explains the group’s message of positivity towards multiculturalism, cooperation and equality, saying his not so secret weapon has always been diversity: “this record is largely informed by our travels, and we’re always trying to pass specific ideas through our filter and into our idiom without being disrespectful to the tradition at hand.” he says “ The idea here is that everything is fluid, that everything is always moving and that we’re all in a constant state of immigration, obviously the album’s title is not without political undertones.”
On this project they have three drummers on each track including new addition Jamison Ross alongside Jason “JT” Thomas and Larnell Lewis sharing sections of each composition—without overlapping. “Whenever you feel a big change in the section of a song,” League explains, “just know that it’s another drummer playing”.
‘Immigrance’ is out on 15th March. Snarky puppy perform at Love Supreme festival this July with more UK tour dates in the autumn set to be announced soon.
