Femi Temowo sets out to make music with feeling

Nigerian born jazz guitarist Femi Temowo has launched a campaign on pledgemusic.com to fund his third album called ‘The Music Is The Feeling’. 

Femi says, “I want to make an album that invites people to FEEL and not just listen, to take that extra step beyond the involuntary to giving up not just your ears but also your heart and mind. By pledging towards this project, you’ll enable me to do just that, recording, mixing & producing my album independently, with full creative control.”

Talking about the inspiration behind the music he says, “it's stories I was told by my father about his time in the Nigerian civil war, and a story my grandma always told about running away to be with the man she loved (my grandfather) only to lose him seven years later in a tragic accident. Basically, stories that deal with specific emotions that I'm trying to depict using a style of music that I play but also styles from the time these stories were set in.”

Already lined up to record are some very well established and respected jazz musicians. Drummer Ernesto Simpson, bassist Karl Rasheed Abel, producer, composer and drummer Troy Miller who has just completed the new Rebecca Ferguson album and New York based British bass player Michael Olatuja.

Temowo was musical director and guitarist for Amy Winehouse and toured Europe with her, before concentrating on solo material, and is also heard on radio station Premier Gospel presenting his own show.
