The Average White Band are to return to the studio to record a new E.P. Founder member Alan Gorrie revealed this to Jazz FM’s Nigel Williams. The band plans to get into the studio by April with producer Joe Mardin, son of legendary producer Arif Mardin who worked with the band on some of their key material, including the hit single ‘Pick Up The Pieces’ in 1974.
On the subject of producing a new AWB album Gorrie said, “it’s too daunting to write a new album when really, quite honestly, there isn’t a great deal of call for new material from heritage artists. People come to these concerts to basically hear nostalgia. An E.P can be quite exciting, and it’s not so daunting.”
The band will include Gorrie along with the only remaining other founding member, rhythm guitarist and vocalist Onnie McIntyre, saxophonist Freddie Vigdor who has played with the band for the last 20 years, Rocky Bryant on drums, singer Brent Carter (ex-Tower Of Power) and keyboard player Rob Aries who was with Hush Productions playing and producing music with soul singer Freddie Jackson.
