Esperanza's London return November 2

Four time Grammy Award-winning composer and bassist Esperanza Spalding brings her new 'Emily's D+Evolution' project to London's Shepherds Bush Empire

As we reported on April 15 Esperanza Spalding is to release a new album ‘Emily’s D+Evolution’ and has been touring the U.S in support. We can now reveal she will be making her long-awaited return to London to present her newest project in a tantalising live theatrical show on November 2 at Shepherd’s Bush Empire.

The four time Grammy award-winning singer, composer and bass player re-kindles her childhood interest in theatre, poetry and movement, delving into a broader concept of performance alongside her intensely personal songwriting, with powerful echoes of rock and funk added to her already rich musical palette. Reviews and initial reactions to her tour in America have been overwhelmingly positive.

Originally conceived the day before her birthday, during what she described as “a sleepless night of full moon inspiration”. Emily’s D+Evolution will be performing all new material that Esperanza says, “Unfolds as live musical vignettes. Emily is my middle name, and I’m using this fresh persona as my inner navigator. This project is about going back and reclaiming un-cultivated curiosity, and using it as a compass to move forward and expand’” says Spalding.

“My hope for this group is to create a world around each song, there are a lot of juicy themes and stories in the music. We will be staging the songs as much as we play them, using characters, video, and the movement of our bodies.”

This show will be Esperanza’s first solo venture to visit London since 2013’s ‘Radio Music Society’.
