This series will be a fantastic treat to mark EFG London Jazz Festival’s upcoming anniversary, rejoicing with jazz all year round.
Herbie Hancock - Wednesday 22 June 2022
For the past six decades, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: at the forefront of world culture, technology, business, and music. Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960s.
As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings, followed by his work in the 1970s - with record-breaking albums such as "Headhunters" - that combined electric jazz with funk and rock in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music.
Marisa Monte - Thursday 23 June 2022
Multi-award-winning singer Marisa Monte is credited with bringing samba right up to the present day by melding jazz, blues and funk rhythms into old-school samba rhythms. One of Brazil's most exciting stars in her own right and as a member of Tribalistas, bridging the gap between styles and musical generations and continuing to surprise the public with the originality and quality of her singing, composing, and staging.
Brad Mehldau Trio - Friday 24 June 2022
Over the last two decades, pianist Brad Mehldau has forged a path that embodies the essence of jazz exploration, classical romanticism, and pop allure.
His unquestionable leadership across idioms has grown as he has transformed the paradigm of jazz and classical performance – here performing with Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums. With his rigorous intellect feeding an inspired range of expression and intensity, Mehldau leaves his worldwide audience eager for his next foray.
SF Jazz featuring Gretchen Parlato and Chris Potter - Saturday 25 June 2022
Founded in 2004, SF JAZZ Collective take the form of both an ensemble of musicians and a democratic composer’s workshop. They embody the climate of jazz music artistically and socially, both platforming new music and honouring the greatest figures in jazz. For this performance, they mark the addition of three new additions to the band with vocalist Gretchen Parlato, drummer Kendrick A.D. Scott, and saxophonist Chris Potter.
As an ensemble of Black origin, they see jazz as an especially poignant vehicle for considering social injustice. Alongside works by contemporary musicians and composers, the ensemble performs new pieces written by their members reflecting on the awakening and change-making movements that have gained greater coverage over the past two years.
When is EFG London Jazz Festival 2022?
