Dr. Lonnie Smith prescribes a new album

Super funky Hammond B3 organist Dr. Lonnie Smith is returning to Blue Note Records after 45 years with a new album in January and two nights at Ronnie Scott's in February.

Super funky Hammond B3 organist Dr. Lonnie Smith is making a return to jazz record label Blue Note Records after 45 years. He will release a new album ‘Evolution’ on January 29. 

Smith was with Blue Note in the late 1960s. After a spell as sideman he released his own albums ‘Think!’ and ‘Turning Point.’ 

The new album will feature Grammy Award-winning pianist Robert Glasper and saxophonist Joe Lovano. Lonnie Smith and Joe Lovano worked together on his album ‘Afro-Desia’ in 1975.

Lonnie Smith is also confirmed to appear at London’s Ronnie Scott’s with his trio on Tuesday 23rd February and Wednesday 24th February 2016.
