Two Dave Brubeck albums are set to be released this autumn, to mark what would have been his 100th birthday, which would have been on the 6th of December 2020.

Dave Brubeck Lullabies

The first album is called Lullabies, recorded on solo piano by Brubeck as a gift for his grandchildren in 2010, the album contains a mixture of nursery rhymes, jazz standards and originals, all with his unique improvisational style.

Dave Brubeck - Lullabies (Verve Records)

Lullabies was Dave Brubeck's last studio recording, with the artist commenting on the project at the time, "Some of the melodies on this album are like those familiar songs...Some are original pieces that I thought would appeal to babies as well as an older generation. I hope the littlest ones will respond to this music, and that parents and grandparents will enjoy it as well.”

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Outtakes

The second release is from a tape of alternative and unreleased takes from his seminal 1959 album Time Out which the family says will offer an insight into his recording process. According to Dave's son Chris Brubeck, TimeOutTakes features "wonderful performances that are every bit as compelling as their famous counterparts". __

Time Out became the first jazz album to sell over a million copies and 'Blue Rondo a la Turk' and the quintessential Desmond-composed and Brubeck-arranged classic 'Take Five' (which sits in the Grammy Hall of Fame) began to appear on jukeboxes throughout the world, propelling Brubeck’s name to one that signified exploratory innovation, deep appreciation for disparate music cultures and a fresh, exciting new sound in jazz music.

Grammy-winning producer and author Douglas Brinkley has claimed that "Once the Dave Brubeck Quartet released Time Out in 1959, the world of jazz was never the same."
