Veteran British guitarist John McLaughlin is to release a new album in the Autumn. ‘Black Light’ features his band The 4th Dimension and contains eight Mclaughlin originals. Included is a piece called ‘El Hombre Que Sabia’, his personal homage to friend and collaborator, the late Paco De Lucia who died in February 2014. McLaughlin had intended to compose an entire album of new music with him.

McLaughlin is arguably in the form of his life aged 73. His contribution has been huge. From Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti and his collaboration with Paco De Lucia, to his current band The 4th Dimension, his music has broken down boundaries dividing jazz, rock, and innumerable global traditions, fully formed into his own unique language.

Mclaughlin adds, “I have explored ways in music and recorded them with happiness. 'Black Light' has opened a portal that is neither Jazz nor Rock, nor Indian nor Blues, and yet all of these: it's an open door."

The 4th Dimension comprises Gary Husband on keyboards and drums, French Cameroonian bass man Etienne Mbappe, and drummer Ranjit Barot. Following the release McLaughlin and the band will embark on a global tour.
